A new study shows that stereotypes about dog breeds, like stereotypes about people, are total dog poop.
You know what I’m talking about. All golden retrievers are lovable. (But have you ever met one that isn’t!?) All chihuahuas are yappy. (But have you ever met one that isn’t!?) All Dalmatians are aggressive. (I haven’t met many Dalmatians.)
Anyway, that’s nonsense. According to the study, physical traits are of course predicted by breed but personality is not.
“There is a huge amount of behavioral variation in every breed, and at the end of the day, every dog really is an individual,” the study’s co-author and University of Massachusetts geneticist Elinor Karlsson told the Associated Press.
