Read It First

Facebook has a problem with people sharing articles that they have not read.

To combat this, Facebook will test a pop up that asks users if they’d like to read the article before they share it. The prompt will say “You’re about to share this article without opening it. Sharing articles without reading them may mean missing key facts.” It will then ask users to open the article or bypass this and share it anyway.

This may serve as a gentle reminder or a bit of shaming. Twitter has had a similar tool since last year.

That is how fake news spreads folks! You see a headline that speaks to your own conviction bias and you share it without reading. Don’t do that. It’s ignorant.

Although if you are the kind of person who has read this far in a newsletter, you are not likely that kind of person who would so we’re probably preaching to the choir here.
